Drip Edge

Drip edge, while often overlooked, is just as important to your roof's integrity as the shingles and tar paper. The drip edge is a formed strip of flexible aluminum or galvanized metal that is installed along the edges of the roof before it is covered. Drip edge forms a waterproof barrier that protects the roof sheeting from moisture and decay. Usually, the first thing to go on a roof without a drip edge is the part that doesn't have a drip edge. This is the only area of a roof left exposed (not completely covered and sealed by the roofing material). As such, it will weather and rot quickly if not covered by a drip edge, so again, we highly recommend it.
